[:da]Two years with freediving in the deep Blue

On May 21st 2013 I tried freediving for the first time. I signed up for a course with freediving instructor Jonathan Sunnex, whom today is still my coach and good friend.

We started out with some exercises on land and after that, we began some 10 meters dive in the water, until I had the equalisation under control there. When that was achieved, and we later had a training camp, I could really try the free fall. I think we both thought I would go around 20 meters, but suddenly something stopped me. That was the bottom plate at 42 meters. The free fall was an amazing feeling. I was in heaven. Totally hooked. I had to have more!!

After the two weeks, I had gone from zero to fifty nine meters in the hands of Jonathan Sunnex and was already addicted to freediving. Could not imagine doing anything else! So of course I had to do the AIDA 3 Star, 4 Star and AIDA instructor course, with Jonathan too, to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible.

Freediving also made and incredible difference to me and my health. It gives me great relief from my painful joints, caused by psoriasis arthritis. The disease will never go away, but freediving gives me a brilliant space without pain, so for that reason alone, I will probably keep diving as long as I can put on my wetsuit.

It also gives me a great pleasure to see other freedivers, who can continue to evolve and set new records at age >50, like Natalia Molchanova for example. -So I’m planning to do my best to set new records till I’m at least 60 ;-)

In 2013 I made my first National record, CNF 70 M. I also made my first deep black out. An experience I perfectly could have lived without, so can’t recommend to be so keen, to move forward in quite the same pace as I was.

In 2014 I spend four weeks in Dahab, Egypt with Jonathan, and made good progress. Preparing for The Danish championship and The Eurocup in Kalamata, where I got to work with the things we trained in Dahab. It went well; Nordic record FIM 91 meter, CWT 94 meter and another Nordic Record CNF 73 meters. And finally 1st place in the Eurocup ☺

2015 is running well too. I was so lucky to have the opportunity to go to Bahamas, to participate in vertical Blue as a member on the safety team. A fantastic experience that I am very thankful for! I learned so much and had very good training as well. And another big bonus: I got to spend time with so many amazing people, from all over the world, who share the same passion for freediving and water as me.

The latest event on the competition site, was in Egypt, in May. The competition did unfortunately not go according to my plan and expectations, but on the other hand, the training was great.  I did my first 103 meter CWT dive and the equalization worked just perfect.

That was May 29th 2015. Exactly two years and 8 days after my first dive with Jonathan Sunnex ☺

The summer has now started here and will be spend searching for serious sponsors, who will support me during the Danish Championship and the World Championship in September.

Hoping to leave at the end of August, so I can prepare with 3 weeks training before the competitions begins. Very keen on going for new Nordic Records and last but not least; looking forward to see all the fantastic freedivers from all over the world!
